WERENGO members have met with the Department of Social Welfare, for ways in which its members can have a better understanding of the policies and regulations that will be governing the activities of Non-Profit Organisations – NPOs in the Country.

Mr Jonathan Djan Gyau, the Regional Director of the department, outlined the new directives and measures guiding the registration and renewal of licences of NPOs.

Some of the measures outlined are the application to request for a license, statutory checks on the organisation, identification of Directors of the organisation, tax clearance certificate and online registration and renewal of licences.  He stressed that Organizations provide annual reports and audited financial reports when renewing their licences.

The engagement gave the opportunity for members of the Network to ask salient questions concerning the new act and ways they can contribute to streamlining the act for the benefit of both the NPOs and the government.

WERENGO members were encouraged to submit Memos to Parliament expressing their concerns over sections of the draft bill when the public is invited to discuss the Bill.
