Evangor Foundation has completed community entry and beneficiary verification for the Ghana Landscape Restoration & Small-Scale Mining Project (GLRSSMP) in Assin North—clearing the way to install fish tanks, stock fingerlings, and start hands-on aquaculture training that restores both landscapes and livelihoods. With local authorities engaged and beneficiaries confirmed across multiple communities, we’re set to roll out a practical, income-boosting catfish program backed by strong monitoring and support.
Project at a Glance
- 49 verified beneficiaries across Ashanti, Central, and Eastern Regions, identified through door-to-door community visits and group verification.
- Aquaculture package delivered: training in catfish production, tank installation, fingerling stocking, continuous feed supply, and M&E.
- Implementation funding: GHS 2,717,318.40 to execute activities across three regions.
Where We Worked
- Ashanti Region: Atwima Mponua (Tano Dumase), Adansi South (Edwinase)
- Central Region: Assin North (Asempanye, Abotareye)
- Eastern Region: Kwahu Afram Plains North (Adukrom), Kwahu Afram Plains South (Adawso)
Verification confirmed active community groups such as Adom Ye, Anointing, Nyame Bekyere, Asomdwe, and Nkrumah Farms, ensuring organized, peer-supported adoption of aquaculture practices.
What Makes This Different
- Co-designed with local systems: Engagement with the District Directorate of Agriculture in Assin North to validate beneficiaries and align technical support.
- Rapid, tangible livelihood start-up: From training to tanks and feed, each beneficiary receives the full pathway to first harvest.
- Restoration with results: Livelihoods are linked to landscape recovery goals under GLRSSMP—turning pressure away from degraded ecosystems while strengthening household incomes.
What’s Next
- Schedule and deliver practical on-site trainings and tank installations per community.
- Stock catfish fingerlings and initiate routine feeding and growth monitoring.
- Track performance with simple, field-friendly M&E to optimize survival rates and time-to-harvest.
Together with our partners and verified beneficiary groups, Evangor Foundation is poised to make aquaculture a reliable alternative livelihood—one tank, one household, one community at a time.
